How to tell if your dog is overweight

Updated: May 5, 2021

Overweight dogs are growing problem. An overweight dog faces a range of health concerns as well as making present conditions worse.

Can you see a waist? can you feel all of their ribs? Is exercise a problem? If you answered yes to any of the above you may need to exercise and diet too! The same rules apply for your pets, as cats get fat too.

Exercise is generally the easiest and cheapest way to help loose weight. Start slow and gradually increase the amount you both are doing.

Decrease the amount you are feeding your dog. Sounds obvious but most people are killing their pets with kindness. Initially half the amount you are giving your pet, once the excess weight is lost then you can re asses the amount of food you are feeding.

Importantly, the entire house needs to be on the same page. It wont work if some house members are overfeeding them still.

Here at Nullakai vet we are just a phone call away! let us help you with ideas, as well as metabolic diets.

Dog vs Kids

When a dog bites a child, the dog always gets the blame. We often push our warped perceptions onto our dogs including the thought they think our kids are as wonderful as we think they are (Bahahaha)
